One of her clients never came to pick up their puppy because her husband was diagnosed with cancer, and they could not have a puppy at home. She told me that this puppy was meant to be mine. Rocky was fortunate, as he stayed with his mother longer than usual. By the time I brought him home, he had learned to follow commands and was already potty trained by his mother. Growing Up Together Rocky grew up alongside my son and his friends, who frequently visited our house. When my son graduated from high school and went off to college, Rocky and I became inseparable. We went backpacking in the wilderness, hiking, swimming in Putah Creek, or visited a caf̩ where I worked on my laptop while Rocky patiently waited by my side. A Difficult Decision Five months ago, my mother was diagnosed with aggressive cancer. After three months of diagnostics and waiting, she began chemotherapy three weeks ago. Unfortunately, she has a severe allergy to animal hair, including cats and dogs. I decided to board Rocky with a wonderful lady who used to be an exotic animal trainer so I could be my mother's full-time caregiver. Rocky has been with her for three months now, and I anticipate my mother's treatment will take another six to eight months if all goes well, followed by surgery and recovery. Although it was a difficult decision, I realized I did not want Rocky to wait for me for such an extended period. About Rocky Rocky was born on April 21, 2021. He is an exceptionally intelligent dog who always finds a job to do around the house. In my home, his job was to keep a watchful eye on me, following me everywhere to ensure I was safe. At night, Rocky sleeps outside and makes sure no squirrel or other animal passes through the backyard. Initially, he used to bark at night, but after realizing I would bring him inside if he barked, he stopped barking altogether at night unless someone comes at the front door. In the dog park, Rocky enjoys herding other dogs and playing with them. He loves to be chased. He is playful and loves the company of other dogs. Although he will fetch, physical activity for Rocky simply means running in a field. He runs, chases crows, or just sprints for fun, often sniffing around. An hour of walking, running, and playing in the morning is all he needs. If I had to go to work-usually two days a week-Rocky waited patiently for my return. He never destroyed anything in the house, never chewed on my precious shoes, but he does love to steal and hide socks and underwear. In the morning, he sits quietly next to my bed until I wake up. Daily Routine I feed Rocky between 6 and 7 AM, then take him to the dog park or out at 7:30. He stays home until 5 PM, and depending on my energy, we walk for an hour or I take him to a field so he can run freely. His second meal is at 6 PM. I always fed him with high quality dog food + what I cooked for him. Health and Safety Rocky is chipped, neutered, and in excellent health. He does not favor the company of cats. He interacts positively with infants, but for children aged 3 to 10, it is advisable to facilitate an introductory meeting to ensure his comfort prior to building trust. Additionally, he demonstrates a strong aversion to mail carriers and may exhibit chasing behavior. He can identify the engine sounds of FedEX, DHL, USPS, and other delivery trucks, getting ready even before they appear on the street.
