This is Shelly, a turtle that we rescued about three years ago. He (or she) was barely the size of a silver dollar and was found running across our driveway. We took him in to save him from getting run over by a car. We probably should have returned him to the nearest pond, but decided to keep him and named him Shelly. We're not sure exactly what species he is. When he was small, he looked somewhat like a red-eared slider, but as he has grown, he looks nothing like that anymore. He has, once again, outgrown the tank he lives in, so we need to find him a new home. Recently, he shed one of the plates from his shell, leaving a white area where the plate was. We are concerned that this may be a sign that he is stressed in the limited space he lives in.
