About LAYLA

LAYLA is an adorable 3 year old, 7.5 pound Pomeranian who came to us from a sad situation. She had been with a breeder who said that she wouldn't come in heat and she was facing an uncertain future. Thankfully somebody stepped in and made sure she got safely to rescue. LAYLA arrived in very poor condition. She was extremely matted and had to be shaved down, something we absolutely hate to do to Pomeranians, but in her case there was no choice. Her fur has started to grow back but she may never have a full fluffy coat. LAYLA was not handled much and she is still very shy, but making slow, steady progress. She will come up to her foster mom to lick the tips of her fingers and she allows gentle handling if approached slowly and calmly. She does not willingly come when called yet, so she will need a patient adopter who understands unsocialized dogs and is willing to let her continue building confidence at her own pace. LAYLA gets along well with the two Pomeranians in her foster home and will benefit from another calm, confident small dog in her new home to help show her the ropes. She is learning how to be a dog for the very first time and another little dog in the home will be a great teacher. We do not know how she would do with cats or children, but because she is so timid, we feel an adult only home or one with older, calm kids would be best. LAYLA is still working on potty training and is learning how to use a pee pad. She is doing pretty well, but will need someone committed to helping her with patience and love. She is not good on leash and a fenced yard is an absolute must. At night, Layla sleeps quietly through the night in a dog bed with her foster siblings nearby. LAYLA is spayed, up to date on shots, has had a dental cleaning, is heartworm negative, has received a ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention shot and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review. Important - check your spam folder for follow up questions and responses from our team. *A Place of Hope Rescue is a foster-based rescue located in Pensacola, Florida. We do not have a physical facility for visits. We adopt within a 6 hour drive to Pensacola. Puppies and dogs with pending vet appointments, and dogs with behavioral or medical issues are only adoptable locally (within 1 hour to Pensacola). We do not ship or transport our dogs.
