About Cleo

Cleo is a playful, goofy, and smart seven-month-old Mastiff mix looking for a forever home that matches her pace and training needs. She is the definition of a 'gentle soul' who loves to play and cuddle once she feels safe. She is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and is negative for heart worm. She is potty trained and crate trainined. She likes baths and car rides. She loves meeting and playing with other dogs. She is not tested with cats. Best suited in a home with only adults or older kids. We adopted Cleo when she was 5 months from the Austin Animal Shelter. She has lived with us (a family of 2 adults and a tween) from March through May. It's clear that Cleo needs a more experienced dog owner who can accommodate her quick-to-startle nature, appreciate her protective instincts, and give her the structure, training, and space to be comfortable and thrive. She is sweet, smart and stubborn. She is nervous and startles easily. Unfamiliar or items surprising sounds startle her. In our experience, she will bark, growl, and back away. She is also on low-dose Prozac per her vet's recommendation. We have decided to rehome her because, unfortunately, our busy, loud home seems to be stressful for her. She continues to fear and bark at my husband despite our training. She also barks at his guitar playing (he's a musician) and our daughter's cello playing (she's also a musician). She is protective and will bark if there is a knock on the door. She is shy around strangers at first but will warm up if given time and space. When she is comfortable with you, she will greet you with a tail wag and want to cuddle with you on the couch. She has no aggression history and has never bitten out of fear or anger. She is a puppy and will playfully nip and bite when playing. Overall she is a very good puppy with a lot of potential. I know she will make someone who can appreciate her sensitive, protective, and playful nature very happy.
