X URGENT, SHELTER ASKING FOR HELP and sent ALERT 5/17 that he may be pts! LOS ANGELES, CA (LOS ANGELES ANIMAL SERVICES/NORTH CENTRAL SHELTER)- ADORABLE BUT NEGLECTED 2 YR, 47 lb CHOW 'ARNOLD'- ID #A2269627 - NEEDS GOOD HOME, FOSTER OR RESCUE ASAP- did well in playgroup- see nice video on his FB post Help! The North Central Los Angeles City shelter is asking for help asap for this poor boy was found as a stray on 4/29 and missing much of his fur due to utter neglect and fleas. Unbelievably, he is only 2 years old and chipped, but his owner never contacted the shelter. He came in with skin and fur issues which are treatable. Not surprisingly, he was initially afraid to be handled. However, Arnold has warmed up and can be seen in video walking nicely on a leash and enjoying being in the playyard and around other dogs. He became available to the public on May 6th, just 3 weeks ago, but he is already on the URGENT NEEDS list because staff noted that he is stiff in his kennel and didn't take treats earlier. Unfortunately, Arnold's breed of dog is often misunderstood as chows don't do well in a shelter environment or usually with strangers. Arnold is an independent guy who prefers to fly solo. He doesn't seek out interaction, rather he enjoys wandering around the yard with his head down taking in all of the scents. He'll approach volunteers inquisitively and politely. Described as a wallflower in playgroup by volunteers, he can be sexually motivated but takes corrections & steering well. Neutering should help. He was also noted to be briefly playful with a female dog but normally is lower energy. Arnold has some missing fur on his hind end and back legs and his skin could use some TLC. He is currently kenneled inside, out of the view of the public so he has been totally overlooked. While Arnold does not have a deadline yet, the shelter sent out an email that he is 'on URGENT ALERT at the North Central Shelter as of 05/17/26 and may be placed on Euthanasia Alert '. This particular shelter also sadly euthanized several other, young purebred chows there, and gave little warning. He is expected to be next in line to be given a euthanasia date. Arnold would do best with a breed experienced person who will be patient with him. He deserves love, some TLC and a forever and better home than he came from. If you are interested in adopting, please contact the Los Angeles Animal Services at (888) 452-7381 ASAP and ask for him by ID, or by going to the shelter website: www.laanimalservices.com Arnold would be neutered for an adopter. but the shelter does request that he be seen by a vet within the next 72 hours to check his medical. His listing link to check his status is: https://24Petconnect.com/DetailsMain/LACT4/A2269627 However, if you may be able to foster, or have any questions about Arnold, please also contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network asap who will try to pair a foster with a willing rescue who may also assist with any necessary medical. If you are a willing rescue in a position to help, please email: [email protected] and [email protected] and or the Shelter Supervisor: [email protected] and call the rescue department at the main number.
