PALM SPRINGS, CA (S CAL)- ID #PSAS-A-89336- Palm Springs Animal Shelter - BEAUTIFUL 35 LB FEMALE CHOW 'SABLE' IN NEED OF A LOVING, FOREVER HOME, OR FOSTER AND RESCUE Please help us find a loving, forever home for this girl fondly named 'Sable' who was found as a stray roaming in the desert and had to be eventually trapped. Estimated to be just over 4 years old, she came in with some masses that were removed and thankfully came back benign. She is now healed and ready for her forever home. The shelter describes Sable as 'a beautiful red Chow with a loyal heart and a softer side reserved for the people she trusts most. Once she forms a bond, she is affectionate, enjoys spending time with her people, and loves settling in with a good natural chew or her favorite toys. For the right person, Sable is an incredibly rewarding companion - devoted, intelligent, and full of personality. Like many Chows, however, the shelter says 'Sable can be wary of strangers and is touch sensitive, so she's looking for a calm, patient, breed-experienced home that understands and respects her boundaries. She thrives when allowed to build trust at her own pace and does best with people who can read canine body language and provide clear, consistent guidance. Sable has done well with some other dogs and may enjoy a compatible canine companion after proper introductions. She would do best in a home committed to continuing to build her confidence while giving her the structure and understanding she needs to feel secure.' The shelter further explained, 'She is selective with who she allows to touch her, so initial meeting is typically on a drag leash. She will back away, but also growl and air snap' with those she does not trust. Therefore, a chow or Asian breed savvy home is recommended who understands to go slow and build trust.
