EMERGENCY, EXPECTED TO BE EUTH LISTED, AFTER BEING MADE 'RESCUE ONLY'- MUST EXIT ASAP, FOSTER and RESCUE NEEDED TO SAVE THIS ADORABLE YOUNG MAN! DEVORE, CA, So Cal - SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY ANIMAL CARE - ID #A843942, 'QUIP' a handsome fella with sweet eyes who has no idea he is in a high kill shelter at great risk Please note: most rescues need a foster or foster to adopt home to save. Help! This dear boy was found along the road and picked up by animal control on 5/18. He is listed as 3 years old and has been named Quip by the shelter, and comes off his stray hold on 5/23. However, sadly, the shelter made him 'Rescue only' where he displayed defensive behavior and growled initially as many chows may do in a similar situation. Unfortunately, his 'Rescue only' status may expediate him to the euth list, when he comes off his stray hold, as they have done this on so many other chows. The shelter stated, 'He was given a rescue only status based on his behavior during impound as it is used for our kennel attendants to be cautious around him as he is decompressing.' He may or may not be given a behavior evaluation when his stray hold ends, as they oftentimes do not always do this even for dogs with improved behavior and or change their status. They also said, 'Quip has not yet had a behavior evaluation but below will be some notes of behaviors observed. Behavior Notes: 05/18/26 Dog does not like to be restrained around mouth. Soft muzzled to load into truck, thrashed and growled when I lifted him in. While impounding, did not let me soft muzzle without assistance. Approach slowly. Unable to give dewormer due to behavior.' We are therefore desperately looking for a foster, foster to adopt and a rescue (please note rescue groups NEED fosters) to save Quip in time. He cannot be currently adopted directly through the shelter unless they change his Rescue only status.
