About Oscar

Maltese / Poodle
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

Oscar was diagnosed with a heart problem, so i give him 2 pills a day, which i will continue to pay for. Oscar also had an acupuncture needle test and has disc syndrome starting about four inches from his neck for about five inches. Although he does not appear in any pain, i give him a pain pill once a day, which i would continue to pay for. Oscar is a little hard-of-hearing, and has the film over his eyes (i forget what you call that), but he sees well enough. It's just that you have to watch where you walk because he may not know he is in your way. Oscar needs grooming every couple of months, and i would continue to pay for this, although I would give his new caretaker all of his grooming tools in hopes that the caretaker would like to groom him. He does not like to be brushed. He likes to chase a ball in the house for a treat. That is the exercise i give him because i stopped walking him a long time ago. He loves treats. He loves to be massaged and i think that has something to do with why he is so healthy and active for his age. Another reason i think he is so healthy is that we have always spent alot of the day on and off from before light until after dark. When he gets through roaming around, he will sleep under my chair. So he gets plenty of fresh air and Vitamin D. go outside very often all day long. I sit on the porch, massage him while he sits on my lap, he will roam around and then fall asleep under my chair. He has lost of few teeth, but he chews his food with no problem. Last November he was diagnosed as having crystals in his urine. He has been on special food for his bladder, which i would continue to pay for. Before someone takes him, i will have his urine tested again. Like other dogs of his breed, he barks -- anyone coming up the drive or at the door, when he is hungry, when he wants something (i don't always know what that is and it's annoying). He likes to go for short walks on his leach and will poop on the way. I seldom walk him because it is painful for me to walk. He follows me absolutely everywhere. If I am busy in one room, he will take the opportunity to nap. He will fall asleep on my lap while we are driving. He is tired of his dog food, so sometimes I will top it with something he likes, but he will eat his dog food if he is hungry enough, but he might wait until he is REAL hungry. i know his dog food is what is best for him, so often i will let him go hungry just so he'll eat that food.
