Barney is a 'Sherrier' - a dog whose predominant breed types seem to be shepherd and terrier. He's got the big, tall ears of a Shepherd, and the shorter, stocky build of an AmStaff. Barney loves people and has never met a stranger, and he goes home with a volunteer every weekend. He would love someone to shower him with attention as an only pet, since he is set in his ways and not fond of sharing his space with other animals. As a 'young senior' who values his zoomie times, a fenced yard is preferred so Barney can chase his beloved Jolly balls around. He also enjoys more sedate activities like cuddles, walks, car rides, wobble treat kong toys, snuffle mats, and naps in the sun. Reasons Barney is a volunteer favorite: Good manners, soulful eyes, sweet disposition. How our volunteers describe Barney: 'Fun-loving, sweet, and so handsome in his sweaters!' 'Barney loves to roll and chase the indestructible balls all over the yard. He still has a lot of energy in him for an older guy.' 'Such a great walker on the leash! He is so gentle but can still play!' 'I'm also in the Barney fan club! He is such a goofy, gentle, charming boy! I think he would make a great couch potato but also gets the zoomies. He's a certified good boy!' 'I think Barney is quite the debonair gentleman in his jackets.' 'Barney is a sensitive, beautiful soul. One word that describes Barney is 'dignified'.' Special Adoption Considerations: Be prepared to purchase an entire wardrobe for this dapper gentleman. He loves his sweaters and jackets! Also, if you think you hear a donkey - that's just Barney barking. It's adorably cute. Note: Black dogs, senior dogs, and 'bully breed' dogs are the least likely to get adopted, and with Barney being a combination of all three he has been repeatedly overlooked. If you adopt a dog from Pet Refuge we will ALWAYS take them back. Barney's ideal home: A quiet environment and older children would make his life complete. He deserves the best in his new home. Barney is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines and parasite prevention. He weighs 66 pounds and is 9 years old (DOB 9/26/16).
