About Jared

Jared is a Sato Dog rescued from Puerto Rico. Satos, also known as 'Puerto Rican Village Dogs,' are a genetically diverse breed type adapted to tropical life on their island. Jared resembles a retriever/hound mix, but Satos are hard to classify since they're not well known outside Puerto Rico. He has a curly tail, medium length coat, weighs around 40 pounds, and is 1 year old. Jared does well with other dogs but is shy, so he needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog who will help show him the ropes. He has done well with kids in his foster home, but we haven't seen him with cats. We are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Jared also goes by Jerry. Or JerBear, depending on how unserious the moment is. Jared is looking to submit an application to be your resident dog's best friend - and once your pup vouches for you, Jared is sure to fall in love with you too. He's a goofy young dude who's down for anything, and an old soul who just wants a quiet evening and a snack. He will absolutely go from full-speed wrestling matches with dog friends to melting into a couch like he's been paying rent there for years. Jared is food motivated, trainable, and surprisingly adaptable. He reads other dogs well, matches energy like a pro, and is an enthusiastic but gentlemanly playmate. Once he gets to know you are his person, you get a ridiculously loyal, funny, affectionate companion with just enough attitude to keep life interesting. Plus�'�| how cute is that curly tail! Jared currently lives in a DC area foster home. His Foster Says: Jared is incredibly sweet, gentle, and patient. He loves belly rubs, toys, and is very food motivated, which will be great for training. He loves other dogs! He is very shy at first but also really wants to be with his people. If you let him engage at his own pace, you'll quickly see him begin to blossom and show what a sweet, loyal, loving dog he is. He just needs some time to build that special trust with his human. Jared is a real gem! Special adoption considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans committed to socialization. Jared's $460 adoption fee includes the cost of being neutered, vaccines, and other veterinary care.
