About Stevie Licks (Pit Bull Terrier Mix): She is a lovely 50 lb. lap dog, who for most of the day just wants to snuggle you. BUT she is still approximately 3-4 years old and definitely has that puppy energy. She can get bored/anxious easily without daily exercise. Here are some ideal traits I put up on a personal Facebook post trying to rehome her. Obviously going through a rescue I can't ensure all of this%BD'%BD| It will give you insight into her and what kind of family would be ideal. %BD%BD%BD Must be an only pet. She is hit or miss on getting along with other dogs. My trainer said she thinks she just wants a friend to play with but doesn't know how to play. She is territorial/possessive of people so I think only dog home will be best. She currently lives with our West Highland Terrier but will occasionally go after or try to dominate her. She hasn't hurt her yet, but obviously this isn't a good scenario for either of them. %BD%BD%BD Must have a dog door with at least enough yard for her to do her business in, and for her to at least run in and out of the house when she has excess energy. She is house trained with a doggie door, but all other efforts in lieu of doggy door have failed. %BD%BD%BD Must keep your indoor trash cans hidden. She WILL get into them if you leave them out. %BD%BD%BD Must keep your house fairly clean/no food on the counters. She WILL counter surf. %BD%BD%BD Must not live in an area that bans pitbull breeds (unless you are looking for an ESA). %BD%BD%BD Must be willing to allow her on the couch/bed. She LOVES to snuggle and will not be in a happy home if she doesn't have this. Ideal: %BD%BD%BD Likes to take 20-30 minute walks at least once or twice a day. (This helps burn her excess energy so she's a calmer dog throughout the day). She's also used to morning walks now so she may cry at you in the morning until you take her. %BD%BD%BD Work from home or have schedules where someone is home more often than not. Her entire life with us someone has been home most of the time, we've only ever left her alone for about 6 hours on rare occasion. %BD%BD%BD Extra bonus if you have grass and sprinklers. She loves to play in the sprinklers. %BD%9D%BD Do not crate train her. We call her Stevie Houdini for a reason. Unless you zip tie all the connecting corners of the crate, and padlock the door, she can get out of it. And if she doesn't she'll likely get so anxious she will do her business in the crate, making a mess for you to clean up when you come home. It's honestly easier if you just let her run free and dog-proof the house before you leave. She'll be fine. If you REALLY want to try crate training with her again, I have a crate that can come with her. %BD%BD%BD She is an anxious dog, with some separation anxiety. I currently have her on Trazodone to help with this and it's been a game changer. The next person will want to keep up on this for everyone's sanity. It's only $31 a month. But it's not a requirement. I am willing to drive to other states to find her loving home. I just want to do right by her and not send her back to a shelter, where I'm sure she'll end up on the kill list. Please, please help me.
