Oso was found in a box with a sister in a rough neighborhood in San Antonio on rainy night earlier this year around 8 weeks old. I took him in because the city has a crowded shelter and I didn't want him to be euthanized without being given a chance at life. I got him up to date on his vaccines, got rid of fleas and took him to a great vet. He is now 4 months and able to stay at a doggy daycare if needed. He got put on heartworm preventative and got extra medication for tapeworms he had very early on. He has been free of tapeworms for a month now. He is crate trained and has lived around children and small livestock. I originally thought he was a German Shepherd as I am familiar with that breed somewhat. Now I am suspecting he is mostly Belgian Malinois. He still has baby teeth. He has not bitten any of us. But he is teething and does use chew toys to soothe his mouth. He is very sharp and trains easily. He knows basic commands like sit, down, and stay. I am working on others like recall and drop it. But I have noticed that he requires a lot of training sessions to be content and is getting very strong. I currently give him about 3 obedience training sessions a day of about 10 minutes long. He gets a couple of daily short walks or plays fetch or we just socialize with him. In total, it is about 1 hour broken up throughout the day of dedicated time to him. However, it is not enough and I am unable to give more than that. He complains for more and seems restless. I am not qualified to continue to be his owner as I am not very experienced with working dogs, especially energetic ones like this. For example, it is not in my capacity right now to take him jogging around my neighborhood right now. That is not my lifestyle right now. I will miss him. It is not his fault his life has begun this way. But I have children and livestock that I care for and I must recognize my limits in training this very talented and strong dog. Thank you for reading.
