5/11 deadline!!!! CODE RED AT PHOENIX, AZ - ID #A5163878- 'SKY'- BEAUTIFUL, PETITE SENIOR CHOW GIRL AT MARICOPA COUNTY ANIMAL CARE, WEST LOCATION- RESCUE ONLY (NHO) FOR BEING SHY AT SHELTER - MUST SEE VIDEOS, OWNER SAID GREAT THINGS ABOUT HER TOO- PEOPLE, KID FRIENDLY AND LIVED WITH ANOTHER CHOW NEEDS FOSTER AND RESCUE ASAP-RESCUES CANNOT HELP WITHOUT A FOSTER A PLACE FOR A DOG TO GO (ideally chow, Asian breed and or foster savvy)! NOW ON DEADLINE FOR 5/11 TO COMMIT OR 'May be at risk for euthanasia 5/12/26 or sooner if warranted' per shelter. THUS, SHE WILL LIKELY BE EUTHANIZED 5/12 in AM. SHE IS 'RESCUE ONLY' BY A 'NEW HOPE PARTNER ONLY' which means she can NOT be adopted from the shelter directly, and a New Hope partner must pull her out. Emergency/soon to be euthanized! We are in urgent need of finding a local foster or foster to adopt near a willing rescue for dear 'SKY' is little chow girl weighing only 30 lbs and said to be 10 years old, no medical issues noted, and said to people and kid dog, and lived with another chow with no issues noted. She has been non reactive to other dogs at the shelter so far. Sadly, Sky was surrendered for no reason listed, and after they had her since a puppy! In fact, Owner surrender notes show she has great attributes and state, 'OWNER DESCRIBES THE DOG AS HAVING A CHILL PERSONALITY. ADULTS AND CHILDREN (ALL AGES) (1O YR OLD IN THE HOME, THEY WERE RAISED TOGETHER) ALLOWED ALL PETTING AND HANDLING, GENTLE WITH THE CHILD ; NO ACCIDENTS - SITS AT THE DOOR AND BARK TO ALERT. FED SEPARATELY - NO FOOD AGGRESSION NOTED. WALKS WELL ON LEASH - RECOMMENDS HARNESS. KNOWS BASIC COMMANDS. ' The owner also shared, ; CHEWING RECENTLY STARTED, NOTED WOODEN DOOR FRAMES - NO ESCAPE ATTEMPTS. Perhaps Sky is bored and needs a chew toy, since this started up after living there many years? The owner also mentioned she 'CAN BE VERY TIMID UPON APPROACH BY STRANGERS, NOTING SHE WILL COWER TO THE GROUND IF SHE IS APPROACHED BY SOMEONE WEARING A HAT OR SUNGLASSES'. Most recent shelter notes on 5/4 state, she 'Came forward when leash was presented, flagged tail wag, allowed for easy leash placement. Easy leash pull to play yard, no reactivity to dogs in passing. No issues placing leash stopper and extended leash but did not attempt to pet due to dogs flagged tail and tense body when entering yard, began exploring and going potty immediately, distant from handler all of evaluation, panting heavily, tense bodied and tail flagged when sniffing. Would start to slowly evade handler if approached, becomes stiff and side eyes while walking away with some chuffing. When retrieving extended leash dog would begin to low growl, bare teeth when handler was removing leash, gently and slowly pulling away from handler.' The defensive or scared behavior does not seem too surprising given she is a chow and that the owner stated she can be very timid when approached by strangers. Thus, a slower intro is recommended with shy chows like this. Since then, we had a volunteer visit her who had no issues as seen in videos other than her being a little shy. She slowly approached the kennel fence and took treats gently. Sky also has no reported medical issues, nor reported bites, but does need to be spayed (which a rescue would handle). From the looks of her very unkept coat, she looks like she has been a bit neglected and in need of some TLC. Her additional behavior and medical details may be found on her listing link: https://apps.pets.maricopa.gov/pri.../Details/OTI5-NDk4-MDRB However, this shelter has made many chow and chow mixes Rescue only, and not given them a chance to warm up, and already killed many who were also shy and many were sweet, young adults. Please do not let this dear girl meet the same awful fate who has done nothing wrong but be a loving pet for her entire life. Due to her deadline, we are urgently looking for ideally a foster or foster to adopt for who is local as we have a local rescue who wants to save her, but they do need a place for her to go, and cannot rescue without this. Or., if you are farther away and can be matched with a rescue willing to back you, and have realistic transport options, that may work too. But we need you to contact us to help facilitate this since she is Rescue only by a New Hope Partner only, which means a rescue who is partnered at this shelter. Therefore. if you may be interested in fostering, fostering to adopt, or helping in some other way (ie., pledging for her rescue), please email [email protected] asap at Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to find and coordinate placement, AND also fill out a foster application on https://dogfoster.org/ and Azfosters.com so we can work on pairing a foster to a NHO rescue group to help. Rescues can also assist with any necessary and needed medical, including spay. Rescue groups may contact the shelter directly at [email protected] and by calling 602-506-7387
