About Toby

Hi there! I'm Toby, a sweet, sassy but lovable 8-year-young Chihuahua mix, who is really looking forward to finding my next forever home. My past has a touch of sadness, but I hold onto hope for a brighter future. I was deeply loved by my previous family with whom I lived from the time I was only 3 weeks old, but they had a 3 yr old daughter that I did not connect with, and although it made them sad, my people decided it would be best for me to find a new home. I was mad and confused at first, but with time I adjusted to this new life in my foster home. It has now been six weeks since my foster journey began, and I continue to thrive and have become more confident each day. At first, wearing a collar or harness was a big adjustment for me, but now I'm excited to join the resident dog on walks-he looks so happy, and I want to share in his enthusiasm. Each day, I gather a bit more courage and enjoy our outdoor adventures more and more. Now that I can get out more often, I am proud to say I am potty-trained and do all my business outside. I wait patiently by the door when I need to go out, and enjoy 'marking' my way around the community. I have been making new friends, and although I admit I can be a little vocal when I first meet new people, a treat or 2 earns my trust. Like lots of Chi's, I can be a bit stubborn at times, just like a toddler. Just be patient and give me time OK? I am not a fan of crates, but my safe pen is my cozy retreat, and I also have an enclosed patio where I can explore and breathe in the fresh air. My foster mom has followed the 3-3-3 rule from the start, allowing me to open up at my own pace. My favorite place to relax is on the arm of the couch next to her, and I love to curl up in my favorite blankets. I am an eager eater and especially enjoy chicken and green beans. I also like carrots and broccoli. I have been perfecting my singing skills and would love to show them off for you. Chasing my balls and the rope gives me so much joy, and I am quite good at bringing them back for you to throw again and again. What I truly yearn for now is someone special with a big, caring heart who can give me the love and attention I need in a forever home. A fenced backyard would be such a blessing for me to explore! While I get along well with the gentle senior dog here, I'd be much happier in a home without energetic young dogs that want to jump on me or small children who want to give tight hugs. Kids over 12 who are gentle might be ok. A sweet senior would be perfect! Let's get to know each other and become best friends. I know I will make you laugh with charm and personality that is all Mine! LOVE TOBY
