I'm Toby, a cheerful and lovable Chihuahua mix, 8 years young! My story has a little sadness, but I'm hopeful about finding someone special to brighten my future. I was deeply loved by my previous family, and I loved them back just as much. Sadly, because their 3-year-old daughter and I didn't quite connect-she could be a bit rough and it scared me-they thought it best for me to find a new home. I'd love a place without young children, and I'd be overjoyed to live with a kind and gentle senior, like my foster mom's wonderful neighbor! My patient foster mom gave me the time I needed to feel comfortable. It took a couple of days before I let her pet me, and those early days were full of mixed emotions. When I finally felt safe enough to trust her, it made me so happy to get pats and affection! I missed my old home at first, but I'm beginning to settle in and find my groove. It's been two weeks this Mother's Day since my foster journey began, and I'm getting used to my surroundings. The collar felt strange at first, and I wasn't ready to wear it until a couple of days ago. But I really wanted to join the resident dog on his fun walks-he looked so happy gearing up! I gathered my courage, built my confidence, and now I proudly walk alongside him. I'm loving getting out and about, going a little farther each day. Oh, and I have a harness too! For now, I've got a cozy pen where I feel safe and an enclosed patio where I can explore and enjoy the fresh air. My foster mom is following something called the 3-3-3 rule, patiently letting me open up at my own pace. I've always preferred doing my business outside on the grass, and now that I can go out to pee...I can safely say I am 99.9% housebroken. All I need is someone special with a big heart and some time to give this little guy a forever home! A fenced backyard to explore would be wonderful! While I'm comfortable with the gentle senior dog here, I'd prefer to avoid being around energetic young dogs or small children. I'm excited to meet my future companion!
