At 71 lbs, he's a strong, athletic young dog who's just waiting for the right person to guide him into becoming an incredible lifelong companion. Why Rugby Will Steal Your Heart: Rugby is the definition of a social butterfly. He absolutely thrives on human connection-belly rubs, affection, and being part of your world are his favorite things. He's smart, eager to learn, and already knows basic commands like sit and down. Add his treat motivation and you've got a dog who's ready to shine with a little guidance. He loves toys, is learning to play fetch, and-bonus-he's a water lover! Whether it's adventures, hikes, or backyard playtime, Rugby is all in. On the Move: Rugby walks well on leash and does even better with a harness. He's energetic (as expected for his age), but he also shows great potential to become an excellent walking or hiking partner. Ideal Home: Rugby is still very much an adolescent-full of energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm. Because of this, he would do best in: An active home that can keep him mentally and physically engaged. A fenced yard where he can run and play. A home with older kids (13+) due to his jumpy, playful nature. An experienced handler, ideally familiar with shepherd-type breeds. He hasn't shown aggression toward people and has no bite history, but like many young dogs, he can get mouthy and jumpy during play-something that can be improved with structure and training. Other Animals: Not good with cats. Not officially tested with dogs, but has shown no reactivity on walks. May do best as the only dog to start. Shelter Stress vs. True Personality: Rugby is currently very stressed in the kennel environment, which doesn't reflect who he really is. Outside the kennel, he transforms into a happy, affectionate, fun-loving dog. He just needs a chance to decompress and show his true self. Health: - Fully vaccinated. - Neutered. - No medical concerns. - Heartworm negative. Adoption Info: Meet & greet required for adopters. Transportation available for rescue organizations.
