Hi there, I got Petunia on 4/19/26 because she was supposed to have been friendly with other dogs but within two weeks, I noticed her becoming territorial over my attention. I have an Australian Shepard named Sebastian (5-6 years old), he was willing to share me, but Petunia keep going after him. After the 6th fight, I decided to return her to the shelter I got her from, but we had behavioral modification training already scheduled for both of my dogs so we're moving forward with that. I have weaned her off anxiety and anti-depressant meds, I am starting to see her personality, she is spunky, playful, sweet, and active. Petunia, in my opinion, needs to be the only dog in a household with no children. I'll be following through with her training, but I am uncertain of keeping her. Witnessing my dogs fighting was frightening and I don't want to risk the chance of that happening again. I acknowledge that both of my dogs are very independent breeds - I may not be able to keep Petunia even after training. Sure, the fighting might stop but if they're not both playful, relaxed, happy and free to simply 'be' without them trying to control one another, she's better off in a home where she can be the only fur-baby. She may need eyelid surgery in the near future, to my knowledge she's had one procedure already. Her coat requires grooming by a professional (if that's even possible) or by the hands of a patient and kind owner. She currently tolerates being brushed. Before the end of the second week of getting her, I took her to the veterinarian where she couldn't be examined. She was on allergy meds which I needed a prescription for to continue, and she may experience sharpie fever from time to time according to her previous owner so I wanted to get a prescription for a preventive med in case she suddenly broke into a fever but the vet wasn't able to get her bloodwork done. Petunia would lunge and bark aggressively at the techs and vet. They try to muzzle her but that became an impossible task. They asked me to muzzle her, which I wasn't willing to do as she was still new to me. I think muzzling her could be an attainable task so as long as it's a positive experience at home with snacks/praises as a reward. This will nonetheless require a lot of patience, practice and every muzzle situation shouldn't lead to the vets/groomers; maybe having her wear it daily as a game might desensitize her. Hopefully behavioral modification training will help with her anxiety/aggression but there are no guarantees. I am committed to the process and the leadership skills required. Anyone interested in Petunia should be prepared to at least meet the trainer for one session to be educated in her progress and process, sometimes it's the people that need training also, I included. The behavioral modification trainer recommended she's boarded for up to 4 weeks as she is considered a severe case. Petunia went from a breeder/overcrowded situation to a foster parent who later became her adoptive parent but was returned a year later this past February and that's when I picked her up from the shelter. I don't think she's my dog to keep but I have a deep sense that I was meant to be part of her rehabilitation journey. Prior to getting Sebastian (my Australian Shepard) after his owner's sudden passing last years, I had inquired about Petunia only to learn that she had been adopted. Fast forward to today, here we are. Petunia deserves a great life even if it's not with us(3
