About Lefty

Meet Lefty ! A 2.5 year old lab mix who is he biggest cuddle bug in the world. Lefty started life on the streets of San Antonio where he was then rescued as a puppy by the humane society, adopted, then surrendered back to the humane society where we found that his initial adopters neglected him (this was by our vet as well). We welcomed him into our home in early 2026 and watched him blossom through months of love, patience, and guided training. He has wormed his way so deep into our hearts that writing this is genuinely painful. We are heartbroken that we can't make it work, because Lefty is one of the most loving, cuddly, sweet dogs we have ever known. But our other dogs and Lefty just can't share a home, and that's not fair to him. He deserves to be someone's everything and we are determined to find him exactly that. Lefty is cuddly, loyal, and full of quirky charm. Out in the house, he is completely comfortable around other dogs on walks, beer gardens, etc. He may be a little excited at times but handles it all with friendliness. His one quirk is sleep startle, a condition where he reacts if other dogs approach him while he's resting at home. This is strictly a home environment issue, not who he is out in the world. Because of this he needs to be the only dog in the household, where he can fully relax and be the center of attention he so deserves. Lefty loves getting outside on walks, exploring new places, soaking up the world around him. He thrives with daily exercise and mental stimulation. But once he's had his adventure for the day, he's equally happy to curl up next to you and decompress. The perfect balance of go and slow. When Lefty came to us it was clear he had missed out on basic training and socialization. He had a lot to learn from commands, routines, how to just feel safe in the world. But what we figured out fast is that this dog is sharp, willing, and wants so badly to do the right thing. He knows and follows basic commands reliably and is genuinely just a well-behaved, good dog to be aroudn. He still has some progress is his excitement around other dogs on leash, sometimes he gets a little fired up when he spots a friend. It's pure excitement, not aggression. He responds to commands and comes back down quickly, and with someone who stays consistent with his training he'll only keep getting better. His perfect family is: - A single-dog home where he's the only star - Active, fully committed owners - Consistent with continued leash & reactivity training - Big on cuddles and love- because that's where Lefty truly thrives - Housetrained, neutered, microchipped, and shots current.
