URGENT need for adopter or foster parent!!! Corbin is a very, very good boy. Needs to be given a chance to live to a ripe old age, a healthy one!!! Recently found out that Corbin is heartworm positive. He is not showing at symptoms at this time, so prognosis is good as long as starts treatment, as in now, near future. He cannot get treated at Chicago Animal Care and Control as the treatment requires greater monitoring, than the shelter can provide. Due to his heartworm positive diagnosis, Corbin is now on activity restriction to decrease the stress of the heartworm on his body, to keep him as healthy as he is now, without symptoms. It is a catch-22, though, since limiting his activity outside his kennel, has made him stressed, which can lead to ending up being euthanized for mental distress. The treatment for heartworm is relatively expensive, but there is sponsorship for the cost if adopt, or if foster Corbin through a rescue organization, the cost would be borne by the organization, besides its usual support for anything he would need. If have a resident dog, all one would need to do is make sure to keep up with a monthly heartworm preventive, which should be done anyway, during Corbin's treatment in order for it to not spread to the resident dog via mosquito bite to bite. The chance of such an event occurring, bite to bite, is miniscule, but with a preventive, that concern is removed from the equation. Corbin is a very good doggie, besides a cutie-pie. He arrived at the shelter on Feb. 21st. Only 3 years old, which is a great age, since done with all that puppy energy, but still have good energy. He loves to snuggle with the volunteers, even goes belly up to get petted some more. He enjoyed running around the shelter yard and participating in doggie playgroup, when he got a chance, which had not been often, since the dogs at the shelter, tragically, only get out 2 times a week, for about 20 minutes, since so many dogs there, not enough volunteers. Corbin is good at self-entertaining with doggie toys, pretty good with his sit. Has met some dogs on leash, very interested in them, wags his tail, sniffs around some, but is not the pushy type. Please, please consider adopting or fostering Corbin, he needs to desperately start his heartworm treatment. It is heartbreaking to think of him sitting in his kennel all alone most of the time, with worms multiplying, when something could be done to stop the progression now, have a full recovery, if only he had an adopter or foster. Please, contact this page, to talk, possibly set-up a day to go meet him. These homeless, wonderful doggies are not throw-aways, they matter, Corbin matters!!! Come.
