Jill arrived at the shelter on April 19th, as an owner surrender, so recently. She was adopted from the shelter not that long ago. Returned since she was being a puppy (only about 8 months old), which means higher energy than an older dog, which means, needs training, like any puppy. Jill is a German Shepherd mix, from appearance, much German Shepherd. Large dogs, such as Shepherds don't tolerate being caged up in kennels well for such long periods as experienced in shelters (practically 24/7), besides the kennels being relatively small for larger breeds of dogs. Shepherds tolerate it even less, since are active dogs, need physical and mental stimulation, besides proper training by their humans. As a breed, they also tend to bond strongly with their humans; shelters are unable to provide the amount of social stimulation that they need, especially considering Jill is only a puppy, since so many dogs there, not enough volunteers. All these stressors can lead to mental distress, which can lead to possibly being 'humanely' euthanized, tragically. The longer the stay at a shelter, the greater chance of developing mental distress to the degree requiring being 'humanely' euthanized. Puppies are even more vulnerable to this. Shelters aren't a good environment for any dog, but especially not for puppies. Jill is affectionate, but can be timid with new people. She is getting the hang of sit, it is reported she is an eager learner. She has met other doggies on leash, is interested, wags her tail, sniffs around. Please, please, come out to meet Jill, see if hit it off, possibly adopt. Contact this page regarding meeting process or assistance with fostering, if can foster, instead. It is heartbreaking that a puppy is in such an isolating, confining, overwhelming environment.
