About Little Rex

Adoption Fee: $1
Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Rex is a very special Dog, Deaf since Birth & a Sponge for Human Love who needs a Home ideally with a yard where he can be Safe & the Center of your Attentions. Rex is 2.5 years old, born June 29th. He is overtly curious & still overflowing with Puppy Energy & yet fully grown at 35lbs. Deaf Dogs find everything exciting. Rex has been with me & my Dog since June 2024 & he is the most Loving Cattle Dog I have ever met, sleeping in your arms with his nose snuggled up against your Neck. Rex is a lot of Fun but definitely has an Off Button when you relax. Rex is a very Happy Dog, always Smiling, completely Indomitable. Deaf Dogs are easy to train when its One on One, outside of a Pack & he has the Basics down with Hand Signals. For Recall, he has been trained to wo work with the Educator 'Vibration Only' Collar - quick press & he runs back to you immediately, this I rarely use. All he wants to do is please you. And One on One he is Perfection. He walks on the leash perfectly & would be not only a Loving Companion but also Hiking & a fantastic Agility Dog. He is very much a Velcro Dog. He loves Dog Parks (but I do not). I know that if you can give him the Attention he needs, he will repay you with a Lifetime of Love. He loves being in any vehicle, he loves going on any & all Adventures, he is the first to jump in my Truck. Rex needs a Home with an Engaging Owner with or without a Family. He isn't hyper energetic like most Cattle Dogs unless called upon to be so, his Deafness allows him to enjoy soft, quiet time & any nervous excitement dissipates upon touching him, he loves the Truck, any Crate, he could be an Apartment Dog. And while he isn't Aggressive with other Dogs, ideally he needs to be in a Home where he is the only Dog because he does get territorial for a moment when he has a Toy/Object/Ball (my other dDog isnt interested in Balls so it works out. He is in Perfect Health, up to date on all his Shots, he will need a Rabies follow up in 2 plus years & I have all his Medical & Shelter Records. Have invested well over $2500 since I rescued him from the Shelter, I wanted to know all about him & his Health, he arrived he had a Bladder Infection for a week, was several lbs overweight & I wanted to know if his Deafness was treatable or not, I invested this money because it was the Right Thing to do. Almost 2 years later I have these Challenges which are compounded by my new Living Situation & not Rex. 1. Including Rex I have 1 other Dog but I no longer have a home with a yard & am on the Open Road almost everyday of the month in my Expedition Truck. 2. More pressing is the fact my first dog has developed a serious Hip Condition & I have to carry her in & out of the truck, moreover I now need to give her my full attention, she came first & I don't know how much longer we have together & she has suddenly become very upset with Rex due to her pain. 3. Rex arrived Ball Obsessed & was in a San Diego Shelter from 5 months to 12 months (he was given to the Shelter for Euthanasia at 5 months because he was Deaf after being with his original family) & in the 7 month period at the Shelter he was adopted & returned several times, no-one kept him for more than 48 hours but no-one at the Shelter explained to me or the previous Adopters that he was Deaf. If you let him, he will spend ALL Day catching & returning anything you throw him & picking up objects & dropping them at your feet until you protest. When I got Rex he was Wild, Abused & Anxious & it was understandable. He has transformed himself together with the fact I have given him so much Love & have him by my side 24/7. This level of attention takes away from my first dog who now needs a lot more focus. He always rides Shotgun with me in the Truck & sleeps resting with his Head & Nose in my neck & shoulder. I am extremely reluctant to let him go but he needs a more stable, safe & contained environment. He loves other Dogs, he loves People & he loves Kids. He loves physical contact & to be close to you as possible when relaxing, his Superpower is the way he showers you in Physical Affection. I have owned & trained hundreds of Cattle Dogs growing up on the farm in NZ & have owned many here in the USA & can promise you Rex will be the best Dog you have ever owned & I am more than open to a Slow Transition, after all he is very much part of my Family & I want him to go to the very best home & if he doesn't work out, I want him back immediately. Thank you for getting this far, I have shared with you every Single Negative & only some of his Positives, he is the most Amazing Being but needs to be the Center of someone's Love. If you want more photos, I have hundreds. I am not looking to adopt him immediately but to have the Right Person/Family try him for a day or two or longer & slowly allow everyone to see if he is the perfect fit. Ideally someone in Los Angeles. If after a week or a month or longer, I would take him back immediately & start this process again
