Speckles is a beautiful double merle Great Dane with a heart as big as her paws and a spirit that shines through in everything she does. This beautiful, deaf girl has learned to navigate the world in her own unique way, relying on her keen awareness and deep connection with her people. True to the Velcro Dane nickname, Speckles forms strong bonds and thrives on companionship. She wants to be near her humans as much as possible, finding comfort and joy simply by being by your side. Her affectionate nature makes her an incredibly loyal and loving companion. Speckles is house trained and understands the routines of home life well. While she is familiar with a crate, it tends to cause her anxiety, so she would do best in a home where crating is not necessary and she can feel safe and secure in a more open environment. She gets along well with other dogs when given proper, thoughtful introductions. With a little patience at the start, she settles in nicely and can enjoy the company of her canine companions. Speckles has a bit of a story written on her-she carries some scarring around her neck from a prior injury. Because of this, she wears a thunder shirt to provide gentle pressure and protection, helping prevent her from re-injuring the area. It also brings her an added sense of comfort. Speckles would do best in a home where she can be close to her people and not left alone for long periods. A family experienced with deaf dogs-or willing to learn how to communicate with her through touch and visual cues-would be ideal. A calm environment, patient introductions to other dogs, and a crate-free lifestyle will help her thrive.
