URGENT AT PHOENIX, AZ - ID #A5159428 -'DAKOTA' AT MARICOPA COUNTY ANIMAL CARE, WEST LOCATION- ADOPTABLE and ADORABLE SENIOR GIRL- ONLY 33 LBS! WAITING SINCE FEBRUARY AND OVERLOOKED BEING LISTED A CHOW/ AKITA DESPITE HER PETITE SIZE AND IS MORE LIKELY A CHOW MIXED WITH A SMALLER BREED - NEEDS LOVING FOREVER HOME OR FOSTER AND RESCUE We are in urgent need of finding a responsible forever home or foster for dear 'Dakota'. Found as a stray, her finder stated she was 'VERY SWEET AND LOVING. SOURCE STATED DOG IS AMAZING, VELCRO DOG, SINGLE PET HOUSEHOLD AND PREFERABLY WHERE DOG WILL RECEIVE A TON OF AFFECTION. ' She did not do well with their dog but we have no details about the other dog. However, the shelter recommends no dogs for that reason. Their bio states,' I'm quite shy, but despite my fears, I'm very sweet and gentle. I have lenticular sclerosis, so things might look a bit cloudy, but my heart sees clearly. I cherish quiet moments and gentle pats. I dream of a peaceful home where I can relax and feel safe. If you have a calm environment and seek a mellow companion to share serene days, I might just be the perfect addition to your family.' Dakota has also gone to a temporary foster through the shelter who has great things to say about her: '04/15/2026 FROM FOSTER: Dakota is doing great. It does look like she has a chicken allergy as she is no longer excessively scratching on the lamb diet. Her fur is also beginning to become more fluffy. She also does not act like a senior dog and loves to run and play fetch. She only barks at people walking by the apartment at night and stops as soon as I am alerted. She has started to like treats (steak cubes) and now knows how to sit. I leave her free roaming when I leave, the longest has been 6 hrs with no accidents or destruction. She does try to follow when I leave and has gotten out once but was able to call back and she came right away. She loves to cuddle while I am watching tv. She loves short 15 minute max walks and is now comfortable in the car but still needs help getting in. She loves to go to dog friendly patio restaurants and just joining me on trips to others houses. She will just sit by my feet in any new location.' '03/28/2026 FOSTER. Attended Petsmart Stapley event. Easy to load into event kennel. Occasional demand barking. Allows petting/handling all over from handler. M&G with PA, initially timid as canine would sit behind handler. Able to warm up & allow petting from PA. Easy to leash. No pull on leash when walking.' Additional behavior and medical details may be found on her listing link: https://apps.pets.maricopa.gov/adop.../Home/Details/A5159428 Is spayed and ready for a new home. While she is currently adoptable, she may become Rescue only and or also be soon at risk soon due to space, or if she declines in the shelter environment or gets sick. Since she is NOT Rescue only at this time, you may contact the shelter directly to adopt her. Adoptions are currently only $50 currently. This includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and microchip. Adopters and Rescue groups should contact the shelter directly at: [email protected] and by calling 602-506-7387 and providing ID. To reach her foster, please contact: [email protected] If you may be interested in fostering thorugh a rescue group though, or helping in some other way (ie., pledging for her rescue if needed), please email [email protected] asap at Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to find placement asap, AND also fill out a foster application on https://dogfoster.org/ so both entities can work on pairing a foster to a rescue group to help.
