About Smoky

Smoky is a 1-year-old neutered male 'all things mix' who brings a big personality, a big heart, and an even bigger love for life. He is incredibly friendly with people and animals alike and is always ready to engage, play, and be part of whatever is happening around him. This sweet boy already knows sit, drop it, focus, and off, and he is eager to learn and please. He is very food and toy motivated, which makes training both fun and effective. Smoky absolutely LOVES his stuffed toys-so much so that they act like a comfort item for him, helping him settle and self-soothe much like a pacifier would for a baby. Smoky is a social, playful dog who enjoys interaction with both people and other dogs. He does well when items are traded or taken away and shows no concerning resource guarding behaviors. He is also very gentle-mouthed overall, though he can be a bit mouthy during play and may try to gently hold hands or engage with his mouth in a playful, non-aggressive way. With cats, Smoky showed confusion during introductions and, when corrected, responded by backing away and becoming fearful, indicating he would need very slow, structured introductions if placed in a home with cats-or may do best without them. He is a high-energy, hard-playing young dog who is still learning appropriate social boundaries with other dogs. Because of this, he would benefit from continued guidance and structure, ideally in a home with another well-balanced dog who can help model appropriate play and social cues. Above all, Smoky is a super personable, affectionate, and fun-loving boy who just wants to be part of a family. With guidance, structure, and plenty of appropriate outlets for his energy, he will thrive into an incredibly loyal and well-rounded companion.
