Meet Clementine! Absolutely adorable girl has made huge progress! We recently moved her to another foster family to see how she handled a big transition and she did amazing!! Very little regression and was a snuggly couch potato with new people by the first night. She is doing really well with her training and is very easy to manage now. How she has been overlooked for so long we don't know but someone out there is going to get a really amazing little dog if they choose her. Clementine is an approx 3 year old female. She is a mix of a lot of small breeds we guess. She weighs 12.5 Pounds. She has already been spayed, is up to date on vaccines and microchipped. She is heartworm negative and on monthly preventions. This beautiful girl is one of the now 23 dogs we took in from a horrible hoarding situation. She survived being in a feces covered home during freezing temps with no heat, no water and no electricity for a very long time. This sweet girl is timid but wants to love. She will need some time to adjust to a new place. She started out as one of the more fearful ones but she has really started to leave that all behind and embrace love and human companionship. Once she realizes you are safe she is all about being a lap dog. She will follow you around and jump up to cuddle at any opportunity. Clementine has had no issues around other dogs. She has been around all types, sizes and ages of dogs and she is wonderful with them all. She does not need another dog in the home with her but she is also happy to have a buddy. She's not fostered with cats but we think she would be fine with them. She is fostered with kids and does well around them. Kids that can give her space until she's comfortable are best but even in her most fearful moments she has never tried to bite. As with any dog she would need any children in the house to be respectful and not treat her like a toy. Clementine is great about crate training. She uses it as a safe space and is very quiet unless she needs to go out. She does not go potty in her crate. She has done very well on car rides and does not get sick. She was nervous at the vet but did fine. She has also let us clip her nails and give her baths. She arrived to us terrified of the leash and going outside. We have been working with her and she has started to learn about walks. She is still nervous and will have moments where she freaks out feeling tension but if you reassure her she is able to push through and continue walking with you. She has become much more comfortable outside and even enjoys swinging in the hammock with her foster dad. She has started to do very well with potty training HOWEVER it may regress in a new place until she trusts you. She came from a place where they were trapped inside and had no options for going anywhere else so she's overcome a lot. She was always one that didn't potty in her crate. She likes to stay clean. She will not potty on a leash yet so a fenced yard or fenced in pen area to potty off leash is needed to maintain her potty training. Without that you will have a long road to fully potty trained. She will have accidents if not let out frequently however if you use a crate when you are not supervising her that eliminates those accidents. Clementine has not had any issues sharing food with people. Given her history we do give her space to eat alone from other animals in her crate so she doesn't feel rushed. We have however tested her a bit with food out around other dogs and she has shown no aggression or issues with it. She currently has a lower energy level so far. We expect she will get more energetic once she fully decompresses. She is happy to wait in her crate all day while you are at work. She will take laps around the yard and have her spunky moments but overall she really enjoys just lounging around on the couch with you or in a dog bed. Clementine has come a long way already. Her fosters have put in a lot of the hard work already to rehabilitate her and teach her to trust again. She will still need an adopter that is understanding and willing to take things slow and help her finish up her training. ***Do not apply to adopt one of these hoarding case dogs if you're not serious about giving them time to adjust. It's absolutely unfair to expect them to adjust in a day or two. We've already had 3 of them adopted and returned within 24 hours of adoption for not being immediately settled and perfect in a completely new place. All were returned for things we explained upfront about them. It's completely unreasonable and unrealistic to expect that from dogs that have been through what they have. The last thing they need is to be shuffled around due to adopters not listening or being serious about their needs*** Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA.
