About Tanya

I adopted Tanya as an adult dog so I don't know her history but she had obviously been abused and neglected as a younger dog because she came to me very malnurished and severely underweight. I vetted with her, though, and as the months went by, her health was restored. She started out to be extremely timid and didn't know how to play. That has changed too. Although she is still somewhat timid (she's not as bad as she used to be) she has learn how to play. She loves to play ball! She is deathly afraid of thunderstorms and shakes until the storm is over. She's great with visitors who come to the house and yet she's a wonderful watch dog. She barks at strangers walking near the house. She's a typical German Shepherd when it comes to her watch dog abilities....she's a great alarm system! She's not good with other dogs because she'll react out of fear. She ends up being dominated by other dogs to the point of her quality of life being diminished. She's too timid to be rehomed where there is already a dog living there. She DOES NOT like cats! She has a high prey drive with small animals and will aggressively go after a cat. She does okay with men but does much better with women. She needs a patient, gentle and kind person who is willing to spend time with her and give her the love, compassion and positive reinforcement she needs to complete her training and to continue helping her become the confident dog she was born to be. She doesn't walk very well on a leash (she pulls) but she's very intelligent. With consistent, patient, positive rewards training, she can definitely learn. I'm not able to work with her, due to shoulder problems and various other medical issues - otherwise, I would never part with her. She's a sweet dog! Tanya is an indoor dog and I will NOT place her in a home where she will be kept outside. You must have a fenced in yard. She will run off if you don't.
