About Honey

Honey is a three year old Dachshund Maltese mix with a beautiful, soft reddish honey colored coat. She came from an abusive hoarding situation, so she needs a patient, understanding home where she can continue to feel safe and build trust. Once she bonds with you, Honey becomes a true Velcro dog who just wants to be close and spend time with her person. Honey can be slow to warm up, especially with men, and may bark if someone moves quickly. She does best in a calm environment without a lot of loud noise and would thrive in a home without small children. She is playful, loves toys, and gets the cutest zoomies. Honey is wonderful with other dogs her size and age and is truly a social butterfly who will often encourage others to join in and play. A home with another small dog is preferred, as she really enjoys companionship. Honey is both doggie door trained and potty pad trained. She will typically go outside during the day but will use a potty pad in the mornings when it is cold or wet. She is also crate trained and will often go to her crate on her own when she wants quiet time. She does okay on a leash and continues to build confidence. Her grooming needs are relatively low, her coat grows slowly and only requires occasional trims and light brushing to prevent matting. She will do best with a patient, gentle groomer who understands her background. Honey is looking for a calm, loving home that will give her the time and patience she needs. In return, she will be a loyal, affectionate companion who simply wants to be by your side.
