[Read About Natural Seizure Care] This is Murphy, born 2018. He is a mix of Lab and Mini Australian Shepherd. Murphy is house trained and will ring a bell to go outside or when he wants to play. He is leash trained and walks better with his harness - he'll just need a little prompting to get the harness on. He will pull if he is following the scent of something, and can be reactive when dogs bark at him. With continued practice and string cheese, he will have more good walks than bad. He is crate trained, but would prefer to hang out on the couch or bed. He will lay in his kennel at times on his own. Murphy will whine and bark if you put him in another room if you are home because he wants to be close by. He does well when he's left at home alone. He is vocal and will be sure to let you know when there is a delivery truck, the mailman or other dogs walking by the house. Murphy has done well with lots of dogs, but sometimes he is dog selective - it just depends on the dog. True to his Australian Shepherd nature, he tries to herd people in the house and he can be protective of his people. He's a little shy around new people and will probably bark at visitors until he gets to know them. Give him some time to warm up or distract him by taking him out to play fetch for a bit. He knows a few commands and tricks: wait, sit, settle, go to Murphy's bed, kennel up, leave it, let's go, look at me, off (if he's on the bed or couch and he's being stubborn getting off, snap your fingers and he'll get off), shake (reluctant to do this one), roll over, bang bang/play dead, dance (hold treat above his head, he'll dance in a circle), crawl, knows heel but doesn't like to stay in a heel while walking. The perfect home for Murphy: He is active and needs a fenced yard with room to play fetch - one of his favorite things to do! He also likes to chase squirrels or rabbits in the yard. He is scared of children, so should only be in a home with older kids (age 13+) or no kids. He needs affectionate people that will allow hime to give kisses and spend time on your lap! He wants to be with you if you're home and will enjoy following you around! Murphy has allergies and has a special diet that works for him. He sometimes needs an allergy shot during spring and summer months. He also struggles with anxiety during stressful events (i.e. fireworks, bath, vet), but medication will help his anxiety level. It's best for him not to be sedated at the vet for things like a dental cleaning because he had a seizure in the past (no subsequent seizures).
