Lucky is a 3-year-old Black Mouth Cur mix located in Fresno, California, and he is a loving, playful, high-energy dog who is in urgent need of the right home. Weighing about 65 pounds, Lucky is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. His current situation has become difficult due to life circumstances, and without placement, his future is at serious risk. Lucky is a happy, affectionate dog who truly enjoys being around his people. He loves to play chase, help around the house (especially during laundry time), and then settle in as a cuddly companion. He responds very well to positive reinforcement and has already learned commands like place, sit, stay, and high five. He is currently working with trainers and continues to improve with structure and consistency. Inside the home, Lucky is generally well-behaved. He is not a digger or excessive barker, and while he used to chew items like sunglasses when left alone, that behavior has improved. He is crate trained but prefers to sleep near his person. He does well with men and women and is affectionate with older children, though he can sometimes be a bit exuberant when excited. Lucky does have a dominant personality and high energy level, so he will need an experienced, confident owner who can provide structure, exercise, and continued training. He enjoys having space to run and would benefit greatly from regular walks and engagement, which he is currently not getting. He has shown some resource guarding in the past with other dogs, though this has improved with guidance. It's important to be transparent-Lucky was involved in an incident where he was accused of biting a jogger after escaping the yard. He was held at the shelter for over a month following that incident. Because of this, he will need a secure environment and a responsible, attentive owner who understands management and boundaries. He has never shown unprovoked aggression in the home and has responded well to training, but he needs the right setup to succeed. Lucky would do best in a home without small children and possibly as the only dog or with very careful introductions. He is not suited for a passive or hands-off environment-he needs someone who will actively work with him, give him structure, and allow him to be part of daily life. This is a dog who soaks up love and wants to be good. He just needs the right person to give him a fair chance and the attention he deserves.
