About Toby

As of April 1, 2026 please find description below of Toby up for IMMEDIATE surrender, foster, or adoption due to his mother's illness along with mobility needs and soon relocation. He is a small 8-month-old primarily black Labrador Retriever Mix with white toes and expected to remain quite small standing 14-inches in shoulder at approximately 15 lbs. Toby is a handsome small 8-month-old Black Labrador Retriever Mix looking for his forever home. He stands 14-inches at the shoulder and is approximately 15 lbs. He is neutered, micro-chipped and current on all vaccinations. He is potty-trained for both outdoors and indoors using a puppy pad. He is crate-trained but happiest in wire kennel where he can stand in proper conformation with his head high at his shoulder and see his humans, windows, and toys. Toby exhibits retriever behavior by carrying and retrieving toys and other objects and prefers to take a walk with a toy in his mouth in survey of his territory. He demonstrates hunting and pointing abilities and will communicate areas of concern 'in the neighborhood'. Due to his need to hold objects in his mouth, play and jump and go outside he can be 'nippy' as a puppy, but should never be 'corrected' by punishment by the human hand. He will be best suited for older children and adults. Toby needs a designated master willing to train with him along with a yard, cotton lead and basic training with standard commands and hand signals. Toby needs slack in his leash to behave, obey and conform to standard commands - preferably leather. Due to his needs to 'use his mouth' and as a breed - without pulley tension and retraction. As a 'small hunter', his kennel needs to be his sanctuary as has an all-important job to do for his future master! Toby would make a nice emotional assistance dog but needs training as such due to his need to fetch and run ahead in rescue and retrieval of 'all important object and goal'.
