ELLIE is a 4%BD-year-old, 15 pound Dachshund mix who was surrendered by her owner. She is very much a Doxie, complete with that classic big personality in a small body. Dachshunds are known for being smart, loyal, and a little bit stubborn, often thinking they know best, and Ellie fits that description perfectly. That independent streak can be a lot for some homes, but it is part of what makes her so special. ELLIE is a sweet, silky smooth little darling who truly enjoys her people. She loves belly rubs and will happily soak up attention any chance she gets. She follows her person from room to room and is learning that being a lap dog is actually a pretty great gig. She is very friendly and wants to be involved in whatever her person is doing. ELLIE does well with other small dogs but can be a bit 'in your face' when meeting them, which can sometimes lead to minor disagreements. We are working on helping her learn better doggy manners. She has shown interest in playing, but would do best either as an only dog or with a similarly sized, easygoing companion who won't be bothered by her bold personality. She has not been around cats, and respectful older children would likely be fine. ELLIE is doing well with her potty training and uses a doggy door like a pro. She will need a consistent schedule to continue her success, as she has had a couple of accidents when her routine was off. She enjoys spending time outside, especially sunning herself on the porch. She walks well on a leash and would benefit from continued routine and consistency. At this time we are looking for a home with a fenced yard to give her a safe space to explore and relax. ELLIE is quite the chow hound and will happily devour anything put in front of her, but she is improving her manners with a structured feeding schedule and a slow-feed bowl. Like many dachshunds, food is a big motivator and a great tool for training. At night, ELLIE sleeps in the big bed with her person. She does have the typical dachshund habit of wanting to burrow and will sometimes suckle on soft clothing if she gets under the covers, so we recommend encouraging her to stay on top of the blankets with her own cozy throw. ELLIE is spayed, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, has had a ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review.
