This beautiful blue boy is Carrot. He is a playful Australian Cattle Dog weighing about 45 pounds from a respected working line and has a full racoon tail. Born on May 17th, 2020, he is at a wonderful age for the breed; past the puppy stage, yet still athletic and full of adventure, and able to relax and cuddle at the end of the day. Carrot is incredibly smart and loves having a job. He knows well beyond the basics, has excellent recall, walks nicely on leash, and is very eager to please. He is both food and play motivated and truly enjoys learning. Swimming, fetching, herding balls, hiking%BD'%BD|if it involves movement and teamwork with his person, he's all in. After a full day, he is happy to curl up at your feet. He loves to sleep in and will let you have a chill morning, especially if you're into dog cuddles. He is crate trained and completely relaxed in the car. He is never destructive and can be left home with no issues. Carrot bonds deeply with his people and is a loyal, best friend. With new people, he can be overexcited and jumpy at first and therefore needs a little structure and consistency as he settles down. In situations where unfamiliar people enter his space unexpectedly, he needs his person to introduce him to new people before they enter the home or yard. Because of this, he will do best in a calm, predictable home without frequent visitors, with adults who understand herding breeds, and are comfortable providing clear leadership. An adult only home is recommended. As is common with the breed, Carrot's herding instincts kick in when he sees fast-moving things like scooters, skateboarders, and small children running, but he can be quickly redirected with appropriate management. Carrot gets along with the majority of other dogs but is independent and prefers to do his own thing in groups. He is not good with intact males and would not do well in a home with another dominant male dog. He has never lived with cats. He is currently thriving in a group boarding home and has a lot of experience at doggy daycares and in many different environments. Due to changes in his previous living situation, including frequent unexpected visitors, it became clear that the environment was no longer the right fit for him. This has been an incredibly difficult and thoughtful decision made with his best interest at heart. Carrot's ideal home is with active adults who appreciate the intelligence and sensitivity of this breed and are looking for a devoted partner for adventures and everyday life. In the right environment, one that is calm, structured, and loving, he will absolutely thrive. He is healthy, neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. He is AKC registered from a respected working line, and is currently located in Santa Cruz, CA. If you feel you might be the right match for Carrot, please email to learn more.
