About BENNIE

Adoption Fee: $300
Chihuahua mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

BENNIE is an 8 year-old Chihuahua mix who first came to us last year after he and several dogs were found in a home with their deceased owner. He weighs 14.4 lbs, which is about 3 lbs overweight. BENNIE was adopted last year, but returned because his adopter felt she could not give him what he needs with her schedule. BENNIE is a friendly, easygoing boy. He enjoys being close to his person, getting pets and belly rubs, but he is not overly demanding of attention. He's the kind of companion who is content lounging with you, especially if there's a sunny spot involved. He will happily stretch out and relax for a nap in the sunshine any time! He is at his happiest when he is close to his people and included in daily life. BENNIE gets along well with other dogs but he mostly coexists rather than actively plays. He would do well with another calm, older dog his size, but he would also be perfectly content as an only dog as long as he is not left alone for long periods. He does not enjoy spending time alone. We do not know how he would do with cats, and any children in the home should be older. BENNIE has a birth defect that left him without the lower portion of one of his front legs. He gets around fine, but it does impact his stamina. He enjoys short walks and especially loves stopping to say hello to people, but he is not a dog for long outings. We are looking for a home with no/minimal stairs and a securely fenced yard where he can go out frequently and relax in the sun, which is much more his speed. BENNIE does well with house training when kept on a routine, but he is not fully potty trained and will need someone who can let him out often. He will use a pee pad at times, but not consistently, so patience and structure will be important for continued success. He can use a dog door, but it takes him some effort and should not be his primary way to go outside to potty. He rides well in the car, really likes going for walks in a dog stroller, and has shown some mild interest in toys. At night, BENNIE loves sleeping in the big bed, often tucked under the covers right next to his person. BENNIE is up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative, had a 12 month heartworm prevention shot in July, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review.
