Shae, a Treeing Walker Coonhound who appears to be around two years old, was found abandoned in Bartow County in August 2024. When we discovered Shae, she was severely malnourished-skin and bones, infested with fleas, ticks, and roundworms. After taking her to the vet, we learned Shae was only about five months old at the time. Over the past year and a half, we have diligently maintained Shae's veterinary care, taught her basic commands, and successfully crate and house trained her. While Shae is a wonderful companion, her boundless energy has proven to be more than our family can manage. Shae truly needs a large, fenced yard to run freely, and consistent, vigorous exercise to curb her hunting instincts. Despite our commitment to participating in 'run clubs' twice a week, this routine falls short of meeting Shae's needs, and we are feeling overwhelmed. The situation reached a tipping point last week when Shae, eager to go outside, accidentally knocked me down in her excitement. Since this was not the first time this happened and I am currently seven months pregnant with our second child and Shae's inability to reliably follow commands poses additional concerns, we have made the difficult decision to surrender her.
