LADY is an 8 year old, 9.12 pound Shih Tzu who came into rescue completely unsocialized. She needs a patient, quiet home that will give her the time and space she needs to continue building confidence. In return, she will reward her family with the sweetest little personality, complete with an adorable underbite and two tiny canine 'teefers' that peek out when she smiles. When LADY first arrived, she was very scared and did not want to be touched. She spent her first few days nervously moving about, watching every move people made, and clinging closely to another dog that came in with her. However, even though she was very scared, her adorable little tail was always wagging and it was clear that she wanted to trust. LADY has a very sweet disposition and is making steady progress. Even though she is still timid, she is beginning to seek out occasional petting. Calm, slow movements and positive reinforcement are the key to earning her trust. Snacks help too! She has gravitated more towards her foster dad than her foster mom and loves to follow him around. LADY does well with other small dogs and would benefit greatly from having a confident canine companion in her home to help guide her. She trusts dogs before people so that is going to be imperative for her transition into a new home. We do not know how she would be with cats and she will not be happy in a home with kids. LADY is learning to walk on a leash but is not quite there yet. Her potty training is coming along nicely, though she still has an occasional accident, usually when her cues are missed. Due to her timid nature, a very secure fully fenced yard is required. If she got out, she would be very difficult to catch, as she is surprisingly fast. LADY has recently discovered toys and is starting to enjoy playing, which has been wonderful to see. She is a bit nervous at the start of car rides but settles down and will sometimes even fall asleep. She currently does not know how to use dog stairs or ramps, and the dog door is still unfamiliar to her. After being introduced to the big bed, LADY quickly decided it was the best thing ever and has started to truly relax there. At night, she sleeps in bed, enjoying the comfort and security of being close to her people. LADY is spayed, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, has had a ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review.
