About HICKORY

HICKORY is a 1�%BD-year-old, 11 lb Chihuahua mix who was found as a stray in the country along with several other dogs. We were contacted to help and gladly took them in so they could find the loving homes they deserve. HICKORY is over-the-top friendly and full of love. He absolutely adores his people and quickly forms a strong attachment. Once he bonds with you, he wants to be by your side at all times. He will happily follow you from room to room unless he's busy playing. He has a fun, goofy puppy personality with lots of curiosity and energy, and he truly just wants to be loved and included in everything. HICKORY does well with other small dogs once he understands his place in the pack. There may be a little growling at mealtime as he figures things out, but nothing aggressive. After about 5 days, he settled in nicely with his foster siblings and now enjoys playing with them, though he's still learning boundaries. He would do best with another playful dog who is comfortable with puppy energy. He has not been around children yet, but based on his friendly, affectionate nature, we believe he could do well with respectful kids. Cats are an unknown. HICKORY is doing very well with potty training and will go outside consistently with regular trips. He has had a couple of accidents on rugs, but he is learning quickly. He is working on leash skills and may be a little hesitant at first but improves with time. He is crated when his foster is away and is not a big fan, though he is getting better. Like many dogs who attached to their families, he may cry briefly when his person leaves, but he settles once he realizes they are gone and learns they are coming home. At night, HICKORY sleeps in the big bed and does great. He loves being close and will sleep touching his person. He's a big snuggler and especially enjoys his bedtime cuddle time. He is still learning a little about personal space, as he loves to be right up in your face soaking up attention. HICKORY will be best in a home with a fenced yard, another playful dog, and an active family who will embrace his goofy puppy stage and adventurous spirit. He will also make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a loyal sidekick to share daily life with. He is a sweet, sweet boy with so much love to give. HICKORY is neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, has had a ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review. Important - check your spam folder for follow up questions and responses from our team. *A Place of Hope Rescue is a foster-based rescue located in Pensacola, Florida. We do not have a physical facility for visits. We adopt within a 6 hour drive to Pensacola. Puppies and dogs with pending vet appointments, and dogs with behavioral or medical issues are only adoptable locally (within 1 hour to Pensacola). We do not ship or transport our dogs.
