About Kona

Australian Shepherd
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

We need help rehoming my dog, Kona. The reason we have to rehome her is because she started becoming reactive to our other, younger dog. She seemingly did it to guard the affections of our family from the other dog. She had never done this until recently. It happened three times. The first two times she gave out several barks, with growling, and stiffness. The last time she was growling and bearing teeth. All three occurrences happened this week and they were all directed towards our other dog while the family was present. She plays great with the other dog outside. They have been together for 4 years without any real problems. We have a medically fragile child and we cannot have that kind of reaction around him, so she has to be rehomed immediately. She has always been fantastic with our kids but we are worried that she might not realize what she's doing in those heightened states. If I didn't have children then she could stay and we would attempt to train it out of her, but we cannot take the change that she might inadvertently injure the children. She is free and I will happily bring any belongings of hers as well. I am also willing to drive her to you. Anything that will help. Please send me a message if you can help. I'll fill you in on anything you want to know about her. Kona is a female, full-blooded, black tri, Austrailian Shepherd. She will be six years old on June 22, 2026. She is up to date on all vaccinations and she is spayed. She has been a house dog her entire life. She is house-trained and hasn't had an accident in years. She is crate trained and stays in there at night. We have always kept the crate in our room. She knows basic commands like sit, settle, come, stay, bed, up, off, kennel(with promise of a treat), and a few others. She does have a couple of reactive issues (like barking at cats and the neighbor's dogs wrestling), but I think those behaviors could be trained away routinely by someone who knows dog training. I pray that she is not judged too harshly because of my failures in training. She is very loving, smart, and picks up on things quickly. She loves playing fetch with squeaky balls and sometimes a frisbee. She is really a sweet dog that I believe would thrive with someone who is active and able to devote time to her. I will happily bring any belongings of hers as well.
