Doug is a beautiful cuddle bug. Hes my best friend and Im devastated to be looking to rehome him. The reason Doug needs a new home is because Im pregnant and I cant manage a newborn and him. Doug is a reactive dog. He likes some dogs, but not others. He did well with my 20 year old elderly small dog but would be aggressive with a family member's small 9 year old dog. He has resource guarding issues with other dogs. Some things he guarded were food, seating, and his people. He needs to be in a home that has no children and no other pets. When its only me and him he is sweet, fun and listens to his training. He loves outdoor adventures and walks. However he sometimes reacts to loud vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, skateboards, and runners. I avoid allowing him to interact with strangers because he barks and lunges. He doesnt bite but I exercise high level of control over his interactions with people and animals. He is very food motivated and can train easily with food and no distractions. However during his reactive moments he does not listen to commands. He is only briefly distracted by treats during these moments. When there are no distractions of people, loud abrupt noises, or animals he is so fun and sweet. He loves to play catch, fetch, and volleys balls back to me. He loves chewing on bones and will destroy plushies. He loves to cuddle. He is about 35 lbs, pure bred Pembroke welsh corgi. He needs the right home. I would prefer the person who takes him to 'date' him before taking ownership. By that I mean supervised interactions to get to know him, build his comfort level, and feel confident that you can give him his forever home even with his difficulties. Its ideal if you are experienced with corgis or herding dogs and/or reactive dogs.
