About Raven

Adoption Fee: $100
Mastiff
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Raven is not fixed yet, we took her in from a family member who could no longer care for her, but as stated I have set an appointment for her spay and can keep her until after spay if need be. If she finds a new home prior to her spay appointment, I ask that an appointment be scheduled for her with your veterinarian/ clinic. With proof provided, I can finance her spay appointment if needed. Either way, she needs to be spayed to prevent pyometra/ accidental litter etc. Raven is great with other dogs and cats, she plays and gets along well with our Male German Shepherd. She has not shown any aggression towards him. However, when she is given a high valued treat, she becomes more guarded. For this reason, we feed the dogs separately and if she is chewing on a pig ear, she does so in her kennel until it is finished- this is solely a preventative measure. She has not shown food aggression/ resource guarding with us. Raven is a love bug, she follows her preferred human around the house. She loves being on the couch next to her people, however we have worked on having her lay in her dog bed (toddler bed) to try to create boundaries. Because of her breed, boundaries are better for her to learn. Raven snores like a grown man, it is usually only when she's laying on her side and in a deep sleep lol. I've been working with Raven on allowing me to cut her nails. Since taking her in, I've cut her nails twice successfully. I had to bribe her with treats, but she does fairly well (no aggression). Raven isn't a huge fan of baths. We've bathed her three times since she's been with us (she likes to roll in grass/ dirt sometimes). She seems to of become a little desensitized to the baths. It just takes some patience. We found she does better in a bathtub because she's more easily contained. After we took Raven in, we noticed she was missing her lower right canine tooth. We are unsure how this happened as it occurred prior to her coming to us, but it doesn't seem to bother her at all. She still she eats fine and is a fan of chewing on her toys. I try to take Raven on walks daily, she does fairly well on the leash, however she will pull at times. The times I've walked her by a neighbors house, who has a chain link fence & barking dogs, she has tried to pull me towards the dogs (not in an aggressive way, but more so in an excited way). The times when there's a privacy fence and dogs barking, she seems to not really care. If you stop walking because she is pulling, she will stop as well and make eye contact with you/ sit until you begin walking again. So far the commands I've been training Raven on are- place, sit, stay, down, come and paw (for nail trims). Place is her command to go and lay on her bed. One thing about Raven is she's stubborn, if you give her a command she will test you and stand and stare until she finally gives in. It's been a game of who has a stronger will, but eventually she gives up. Raven would prefer to sleep next to her humans in bed, however we have trained her to be able to sleep in her kennel- before that, she used to whine in her kennel night. She has not shown any destructive behaviors, she can be left outside as her favorite activity is sun bathing. We have not left her out unsupervised in the house for her safety. Raven is a guardian breed, therefore her natural instincts are to protect her family/ human & property. You cannot train her guardian instincts out of her but instead embrace them and try to set boundaries. For this reason, it's highly suggested that you have breed experience with Cane Corso's or other guardian breeds.
