Courtesy Posting: CODE RED - DOWNEY SHELTER (LA COUNTY) in S CAL- SWEET 'FOXY' ID #A5759080- 72 hr warning of EUTHANASIA given 3/13, she may be EUTHANIZED 3/16- needs ADOPTER, FOSTER AND OR RESCUE TO SAVE HER LIFE! Friendly, Female chow mix, may be part shepherd and or husky too? Good with other dogs, kids Listed as a 5 year old chow mix, the shelter says 'Roxy is a sweet girl who's looking for a second chance at a loving home She was surrendered when her previous owner had to move and couldn't take her along.' Her prior owner said ' she is a good loveable dog' and provided wonderful details about her such as she lived with and or was around with large and small dogs and even cats, interacted with kids and is playful, never bit anyone, is quiet, and good in a car. When Roxy first arrived at the shelter, though, she was understandably very nervous and hesitant to approach, but she's slowly learning that people can be kind. She now allows gentle touch and is beginning to relax. Her medical notes state, 'Appears friendly, approached kennel with a loose body and soft wagging tail, giving kisses through the kennel door, readily ate treats when offered, seeks out affection'. However, following her spay on 3/10, she was noted as having some nasal discharge on 3/13 and is being treated for kennel cough, as well as being monitored for some tummy troubles. Despite everything she's been through, this brave girl deserves a safe, patient, and loving home where she can finally feel secure and truly thrive'. It should be noted Foxy came in with an embedded collar that has been removed, lived mostly outdoors, but is said to be crate trained. Her weight has dropped to 54 lbs from 61 lbs likely from stress of being abandoned, as the owner had her since a puppy. She has been placed on medication for both issues. She started on doxy on 3/13, but this caused her to be added to the very urgent list, soon to be euthanized. We have a copy of the owner surrender notes, as well as medical and behavior notes that state, 'She allowed the handler to pet her whole body with no issues. She was nervous and jumpy, but was easy to handle. When the assessment was over, she walked nicely back to the kennel.'
