Hi! I'm Alwyn. I'm an 8'year'young, 88'lb bench English Setter with a heart as big as my paws. Life threw me a tough curveball when my dad passed away. I was left alone in the home with only a doggie door for company and no regular meals. A kind person stepped in to feed and check on me every other day, but I was still very much on my own. By the time I reached my foster mom, I was matted, unkempt, and in need of some TLC. After vaccines and a much'needed grooming (yes, most of my coat had to be shaved), I'm looking handsome again-and feeling even better. I'm a giant puffball who loves meeting new people, often greeting them with enthusiasm and, occasionally, a little drool. I'm happiest when I'm close to my person and I'm an affectionate cuddler. My drooling tends to increase when I'm anxious, but it has improved now that I'm in a stable home. I also drool for a few minutes after taking a big drink of water, which just seems to be part of my charm. I currently live with two dogs, including one who is almost my size. I enjoy playing with her, though I'm careful and respectful because she can be a bit assertive. I'm very sweet with the smaller dog as well, and I don't mind sharing the bed with both of them. I have not lived with cats. For a big boy, I'm surprisingly agile and can hop into an SUV or onto a bed with ease. I'm a laid'back companion most of the time, but I do struggle when my foster mom leaves the house. After everything I've been through, I've developed some separation anxiety. When she heads out, I may bark or jump and scratch at the door she leaves from. We're working on helping me feel more secure and confident, and I'm already making progress. I've learned to use the dog door in my foster home and I'm about 95% house'trained. When I first arrived, I did some marking, but I quickly learned that wasn't acceptable. I'm very motivated by treats, though I sometimes get a little too excited and grab them quickly-an open palm works best while I practice better manners. I listen well overall, even though I don't know many commands yet, and I walk fairly nicely on a leash and harness. In short, I'm a big, loving, resilient dog who wants nothing more than companionship, stability, and someone to adore. With patience and continued guidance, I'll keep blossoming into the wonderful companion I'm meant to be. If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate friend who will stay close and fill your home with warmth (and a bit of drool), I might be the perfect match.
