PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION. To see more pictures of this dog, please visit our Facebook page and look under 'photos' and then 'albums'. 9-month-old male Chihuahua mix, about 7 pounds. Brother to Tofu, Mochi and Miso. Otherwise known as 'The Boy Band'. Say hello to Kikkoman! He is spunky, curious, intelligent, and so sweet (maybe a little salty, too ). We're working on all things puppy such as leash walking, basic cues, potty training, crate training and building confidence. His disposition is initially nervous/timid, and he can take time warming up to new people or places, but he stays curious and has slowly warmed to our home and routine. He attaches to one person, and you become his entire world. Velcro boy. You will have a little shadow following you around everywhere you go if you are the chosen one. *Since settling with us for a couple weeks, his nervous tendencies have decreased, and we have seen more of his playful and eager to please personality shine through. Kikkoman is still nervous around my husband and doesn't let my husband handle him, so he may not care for men as he remains wary when my husband is around. Otherwise, minimal reactivity towards strangers, doesn't bark excessively day to day. He sleeps quietly all night crated in our bedroom, or downstairs next to my dog in separate crates but close proximity to each other so he knows he isn't alone. He will need continuing crate training as he has some separation anxiety when left alone during daytime hours but has shown improvement as he settles with us. Once Kikkoman gains your trust, he will reward you with all his charming qualities. He would be best suited for a single person (currently favors women), or a family with/without children who understand his boundaries and know how to handle a small dog. Not sure how he would be with children under 5. I think Kikkoman would love to have a a dog his size to play and cuddle with. He does well around my cat. No tormenting or chasing, just peaceful coexistence. He has shown minimal reactivity towards other dogs on walks. It presents mostly as excited pulling. He will need to continue training but does pretty well on leash for having essentially no leash walking experience. He sticks close to his person and doesn't pull much except at times of excitement as noted above. Encouraging him to explore his surroundings, sniff, and do 'outdoor agility' has helped build his confidence. We've been working on yielding to leash pressure, leashed recall and engagement/eye contact with me when triggers are present. I'm able to walk my dog and him simultaneously. He is food motivated and willing to work for rewards. He loves treats and is very motivated to receive them any way he can! Kikkoman has shown interest in varying outdoor adventures. He completed his first 'hike' (we carried him 85% of the way ) and saw all sorts of new and exciting things. Parachutes, clicking hiking poles, loud kids, a variety of dogs and new textures/terrain to navigate. He did excellent! He is nimble on his feet and is able to maneuver small spaces with ease. He was loving all the new smells on the trail. I can see him being an awesome little adventure buddy. I have a sling that stays in my daypack, and it works perfectly for our tiny companions when they need a lift. If you're into outdoor adventures, a sling is a lifesaver for young, tired, or injured pups. He does well in the car, no car sickness noted and no sound sensitivity noted so far. He can be hesitant to potty outside in inclement weather, but with encouragement and positive reinforcement he is learning. I've noticed him starting to linger by our door when he needs to go, he is catching on! He LOVES toys!! He will happily select one and entertain himself, ask you to play fetch, or gather them one at a time, place them in front of our space heater, then take a nap in the toy pile. It's the cutest thing! As most puppies are, he is a busybody. Enrichment activities like snuffling mats/interactive toys or short training sessions for mealtime during poor weather when we can't get outside have been an amazing outlet and help him release that puppy energy in a calm manner. Lick mats and our newest addition called 'woof pupsicle pops' are indeed a house favorite! If left to his own devices he will chew random items, so redirecting him to items he is allowed to chew on is important to prevent undesirable habits. This isn't excessive, but I have caught him a few times. He's a puppy after all, mischief is expected! He responds well to toy redirection. He currently loves rope toys and soft stuffies. When he's not playing with toys or my dog, his other favorite activity is snuggling and napping in your lap, chasing sunspots, or lounging in his bed.
