Gunner - Smart Young Belgian Malinois, Loyal & Affectionate (CA) Gunner is a young Belgian Malinois with a big personality and a heart full of affection. He is a smart, energetic dog who thrives when he has interaction, exercise, and a person to bond with. Gunner is a staff and volunteer favorite at the shelter because of his friendly and loving nature. He enjoys being close to people, loves belly rubs, and will happily sit next to you for attention once he has burned off some energy. Like many Malinois, Gunner is very intelligent and eager to learn. He already knows basic commands such as sit and down, and he responds well to direction even when he becomes excited. He walks well on leash and loves playing fetch - it's one of his favorite activities. Gunner has a playful, athletic personality and would do best with someone who enjoys an active lifestyle. He would be a great companion for hiking, running, training, or other activities that keep both his body and mind engaged. He does well with other dogs and enjoys social interaction. Because of his high energy and quick movements, a home with children 10 years or older would likely be the best fit. Cats are not recommended. In the kennel environment Gunner can appear stressed and may jump or bark for attention, which is common for active working dogs in a shelter setting. Once outside the kennel, he settles quickly and becomes affectionate, responsive, and easy to handle. Gunner is neutered, vaccinated, and healthy, with no bite history while in our care. He would thrive with someone familiar with working breeds or willing to provide training, structure, and daily exercise. With the right home, Gunner has the potential to become an incredibly loyal and devoted companion.
