Marshmallow A2510465 is a 10-year-old, 39 lb spayed female who is heartworm negative and was owner surrendered when her owner could no longer care for her. She appears to have lived a very sheltered life prior to arriving at the shelter and had never been walked on a leash. Since intake, Marshmallow has been extremely fearful and overwhelmed by the shelter environment. When approached she will retreat to the back of her kennel, freeze, or 'pancake' to the floor. She often needs to be gently carried when being moved and shows signs of stress such as a tense body and whale eye. Despite her fear, Marshmallow has remained tolerant of handling, medical care, and restraint without attempting to bite or show aggression. Marshmallow is a very sensitive senior who seems deeply frightened by the busy shelter setting but has shown that she will tolerate gentle interaction and petting once she realizes she is not being forced. Marshmallow likes to do her own thing away from the other pups she came in with. She would benefit greatly from a patient rescue that can provide a calm, quiet environment where she can decompress at her own pace. With time, patience, and compassionate guidance, Marshmallow has the potential to gain confidence and finally experience the safety and stability she has likely never known.
