Kobe is a 7-year-old, 70lb, neutered male yellow Lab mix who perfectly embodies everything people love about Labrador Retrievers. He's goofy, loyal, incredibly sweet, and unapologetically food motivated Kobe already knows several commands including sit, come/here, down, drop it, and focus. Training with him is a breeze because food is his absolute favorite thing in the world. In fact, Kobe can hear a wrapper opening from across a crowded room and will happily follow you to the ends of the earth for even the tiniest crumb. The good news is he is very gentle when taking treats, which makes working with him easy and enjoyable. He walks nicely on leash and generally doesn't pull much, making him a great companion for walks and daily outings. Kobe was owner-surrendered due to changes in his owner's living situation. He lived with and loved his kids. He is potty-trained. Previously, when outside he was typically kept in a pen. Because of past experiences where loose dogs ran up and attacked him, Kobe has developed a habit of being on guard around other dogs, always waiting for the moment he might have to defend himself. During his temperament testing, we noticed this vigilance - not aggression. He was never rude or reactive, but his hesitation and watchfulness can make interactions with other dogs a bit awkward. When out and about, Kobe usually prefers to avoid other dogs altogether and mind his own business. For this reason, Kobe would likely thrive best as an only dog in the home where he can relax and not feel like he has to stay on alert. While we can't say it's impossible for him to live with another dog, any potential canine companion would need to be very calm, respectful, and low-pressure. We also believe he would do best in a home without cats. Kobe has shown no possessiveness or aggression over food, treats, or toys. He does sometimes hold onto his favorite toys, but he allows you to easily take them right out of his mouth without issue. At the end of the day, Kobe is simply a really good dog who deserves a family to spend the rest of his years with. He's looking for a home where he can be loved unconditionally, enjoy playtime with his people, and of course receive plenty of snacks along the way. If you're looking for a loyal companion who will happily stick by your side (especially if snacks are involved), Kobe might be the perfect match.
