BDRA is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) charity that accepts no fees when helping individuals or other rescues. 100% of donations go directly to the care of the animals. If you'd like to help us continue our mission, please donate at: https://www.blinddogrescue.org/donate-1. Name: Jax Age: DOB 11/10/17 Breed: Blue Heeler, 45 pounds Sex: Male (neutered) Location: Allegheny County, Pennsylvania Poor Jax has gone blind and no longer can be around very young children. He needs a home where he can thrive. Vet Info: Jax is not current with vaccinations, nor does he have a current HW test. Jax was diagnosed with SARDS in 2024. He is fully blind. He has seen a veterinary ophthalmologist. He has hypothyroidism and is taking Levothyroxine twice a day. Jax is microchipped. Dog Info: Jax is a sweet dog who is confined to one area of the house because he and the one year old child in the house are not getting along. Jax is housebroken and leash trained. He knows the commands: sit, down and stay. He did have some obedience training when he was younger. He is an outgoing boy who gets along great with men, women and teenagers. He might be okay with younger children that are old enough to understand that Jax can't be startled. He is currently living with a senior Chihuahua and he is fine with her but since he has gone blind, he is afraid of other dogs. There is a possibility that he could live with another calm dog, but introductions would have to be very slow and they would need to be kept separate when unattended. Jax does adjust very quickly to new surroundings. Owners have lived in two different homes since he has been blind. Jax is not possessive with treats, toys or food and has never bitten or snapped at another animal before going blind. He has not been comfortable with dogs getting too close and has asserted dominance. Jax loves to cuddle and enjoys walks, running in the yard, playing and sleeping. He is crate trained and also able to roam the house freely. He is also good in the car. **Owner Surrender Disclaimer: These are blind and visually impaired dogs who are living in homes, but their owners can no longer keep them.
