The dogs are a very bonded pair: a young female Great Pyrenees (approximately under one year old, about 70 pounds) and a male mixed-breed dog who appears to be in good health. They have matching collars, no tags or microchips, and their behavior strongly suggests they came from the same home. The male, whom I am calling Leo, is healthy and gentle. The female, Lilly, is in poor condition. When I found her, she was severely matted and filthy, with both ears full of pus and blood. She also has healed eye injuries, minor abrasions, and weakness in one of her back hips. She could not jump into the car and had to be lifted. My veterinarian flushed her ears, treated them with medication, and prescribed antibiotics and steroids, which I am administering. I have also brushed and trimmed her coat, and she is truly a beautiful, sweet dog. I already have a 12-year-old male Great Pyrenees with arthritis who requires regular injections and supplements, as well as two senior cats. I also have Adrenal Insufficiency and two other chronic illnesses. As much as I care for Leo and Lilly, I am not physically able to provide the level of care they need or manage the logistics of keeping them separated from my own pets long-term. Right now, Lilly is attached to a cable in my front yard because Leo refuses to leave her side. I let them stretch their legs in the backyard, but I must bring my own dog inside to do so, and he loves being outdoors in this cool weather. This situation is not sustainable for any of us. I am terrified of surrendering them to my local animal control because I fear Lilly would be euthanized or that they would be separated. They are incredibly sweet, loving dogs who deserve safety, stability, and a chance at a real home. I am begging for help finding a foster, rescue placement, or any safe option that keeps them together and gives Lilly the medical care and stability she needs. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any assistance you can offer.
