Spud Needs a Foster or Adopter by March 14, 2026 to Secure His Ride to Wisconsin Spud is currently in a kill shelter in Arkansas and needs a FOSTER or ADOPTER to secure his spot on the transport to Cedarburg, WI with Mutt Life Dog Rescue on March 14, 2026. A committed home is required for him to make the trip, and we're hopeful the right person is out there. Meet Spud Spud is a 5-month-old mixed breed puppy who is ready for a fresh start. He and his brother, Sprout, were found as strays and ended up in an Arkansas shelter where they are now sadly on the euthanasia list. Despite their rough start, Spud has remained a happy, loving puppy who is eager for a chance at a better life. He has a playful, friendly personality and enjoys being around people. Like most puppies his age, Spud is curious about the world and always ready for fun and attention. He does well with other dogs and kids, and with proper introductions and time to adjust, he will likely do well with cats too. Him and his brother are likely lab/sharpei mix and are super squishy and cute with their extra wrinkles. Spud is still a young pup and will need help learning the basics like crate training, potty training, and leash manners, but he's at the perfect age to learn and grow with his new family. With patience, consistency, and love, he'll make a wonderful companion. Spud currently weighs about 35 lbs and will be neutered before transport, so he'll be ready to head north and start settling into his foster or forever home. Apply: Fill out an adoption application completely and submit all necessary documents. 2.) Application Decision: approved applicants will be notified via phone call and email. 3.) Foster-to-Adopt Trial Period: After approval, you have the opportunity to do a meet and greet and bring your dog home! You get a 5-day foster-to-adopt (FTA) period to make sure it's the right fit. 4.) Final Decision: By the end of the FTA period, please let us know your final decision to adopt or return the dog to our rescue. 5.) Home Visit: After the adoption process, we conduct a home visit either in person or via Zoom meeting to ensure that everything is going well with the transition and to answer any final questions you may have. 6.) Neuter/spay for puppies: for dogs who are not fixed at the time of adoption, we will reimburse for the procedure once we receive proof of spay/neuter. The procedure MUST be done at HAWS Snip Clinic in Waukesha, WI, or Wisconsin Community Veterinarian Center in Madison, WI. If you would like to go through your veterinarian or another location, we will reimburse $150 once we receive proof of the procedure. We recommend spay/neuter around 6 months old. **Note: Adoptions are not considered final until the dog is neutered/spayed if applicable**
