This is Birdie! We are looking for immediate foster placement for her. She is a young blue tick hound/ cattle dog mix and is 17 months old. She is still learning about the world, but one thing she knows is that young kids are NOT her thing. She is currently living in a home with a 6 year old and it's causing a lot of stress for Birdie and her humans as the tension is escalating. The humans know this isn't the best thing for Birdie and are looking to find a different home for her that could be a safer and better fit. Birdie has been coming to Fox Hollow for day school for a little while now and she LOVES to learn. Birdie has taken 3 rounds of obedience from Canine Head Start and knows basic cues very well! Some of her behavior struggles: Resource Guarding (specifically food, but other items as well) she responds really well to guarding protocols and has come so far in sharing food at school with other dogs. Young Children. They move quick, are loud and won't relax! Birdie will tell children to back off in dog appropriate ways, but not appropriate for young children. She has shown bite inhibition but we don't want to push her past that. Containment. She does not love a crate but has come really far in being able to settle in her X-Pen set up at school. Dog preference - Birdie does well with others dogs, but will not back down from being told off by them. She prefers to play with goofy boys who will let her be in charge of what's happening. Birdies wins! Birdie is SO into training she's so much fun to work with! I could easily see Birdie going on to train in obedience, agility or more! While Birdie is not crate trained, she does well with being left alone in the house for up to 3-5 hours. Birdie will alert bark when she sees people walking outside, but does not bark for prolonged periods. While Birdie is an active dog, she is also a wonderful couch potato! She is happiest snuggling on the couch with her humans in the afternoons/evenings. Birdie would thrive as some kind of sport or hunting dog. She LOVES to sniff out small animals, loves to run and hike. Being outside is her favorite! Birdie would do best in a home with NO children under 13, female dogs, or small animals. She would do well in a home that is looking for a dog to do sports with, or have fun training. She would prefer a fenced in yard, but is not a requirement, she just loves to run and run! If Birdie seems like your kinda gal we are looking for foster or adopters ASAP! Email : [email protected] for more information or to request an application for Birdie!
