Scout came to us as owner surrenders because his family was going a divorce and could no longer care for him. He is an absolute lover! He always wants his person within sight and hasn't quite grasped the idea of personal space yet. He'll even army crawl toward you, convinced he's being a stealthy little ninja, just to be close. The moment you look at him, make eye contact, or give him a pet, he's inching closer! He is crate trained and has made great progress. With a little food motivation, he now goes in quickly at mealtime and has even started walking in on his own. In the mornings, he gets very excited to see me-jumping and barking in his crate-but he settles down quickly. Everything is new to Scout, so he'll need continued guidance with the basics-manners, how to play with toys (it's clear he's never really learned), and everyday routines. The good news is he's very food-motivated, which makes training much easier! Scout may need more than one meet-and-greet to feel comfortable, as he can be a bit standoffish at first. Remember, we don't know his past, so patience and understanding are key. He is wonderful with the foster's two dogs-he loves them and plays well, showing no aggression. With the foster's cat, he's curious but respectful-he'll sit and watch her, and if she moves, he follows without chasing. He may be trying to herd her, but it's still too early to tell. Scout is very smart, and with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement, he's going to make an amazing companion. He would likely do best in a home where someone is around often, such as a work-from-home environment. He isn't a big fan of strangers and may growl initially, and he can get a bit anxious during thunderstorms. He also has a tendency to jump when excited (both on people and in his crate), but we're actively working on that. Scout has so much potential and so much love to give-he just needs the right person to help him continue to grow
