Hello, Me and my roommate found a stray dog walking on the road near where we work. We pulled over and found no collar or ID but she seemed healthy, in good spirits, and quite friendly to us. We took her and called our local animal shelter. They came and checked for a chip but could not find one. We gave her to them where she would wait the usual 3 days for someone to claim her before putting her up for adoption. After no one claimed her, the shelter did an evaluation on her and deemed her 'unadoptable' citing her breed and some dominance behavior (explicitly did not say 'aggressive'). Once we confirmed with them that she would probably be euthanized, we reached out to adopt her to find a forever home for her somewhere else. We made sure the clinic got her up to date on vaccines/medications, microchipped, and spayed. They aged her at about 4 years old and we named her Poppi. We are now trying to find rehome/fostering/sanctuary options for her after exhausting options for private adoption. Although she is a sweet dog in every aspect we have seen, we simply do not have the capacity, long-term, to house her effectively (work hours, no yard, financial strain, etc). As for behavior, she is quite mellow but affectionate and loves physical contact. On several walks, we have seen excitement towards seeing other people, dogs, and cats, but nothing indicating aggression, just curiosity. We have yet to see any forms of dominance indicated by the shelter. She also loves being outside but can only provide walks when she needs space to roam. We are really hoping for help because we want to see her go to a good home. Any help is appreciated!
